CD and DVD media manufacturer Ricoh has announced that they will release 8x DVD+R media in the 4th quarter of this year. The price of the media is unknown at present.
The original press release is in Japanese, but roughly translates into English as:
"With our new development in organic pigment, Ricoh's new 8x DVD+R further develops on our 1x discs. The 8x media are compatible with the new range of 8x DVD drives as well as older, slower hardware.
"The discs feature wide power margin technology to produce low error rates. The discs are both highly compatible with many set-top DVD recorders and high-speed.
"Ricoh will announce a DVD drive capable of writing to these speeds once development work is finalised.
"As yet no details of when the discs will come to market and their pricing are available."
